Breadfruit & Open Spaces features Pacific Island families who attempt to grow roots on Guam and make it their home. As recent migrants from Chuuk to Guam, they are met with the challenges of becoming landowners and belonging, though they experience many comforts from building homes in wide open spaces.

Deep Waters

Deep in the jungle of rural Guam, Micronesian immigrants from Chuuk are living the dream come true: they have purchased land to buy homes and plant crops for their families. These new migrants come determined to find work, plant breadfruit trees, send their children to “American” schools, and are devastated when they are threatened with eviction. With their American Dream at stake — they organize and fight back!
